Those Parker, Ginobili, Duncan teams were one of my favourite teams to watch of all time. Everyone said they were so boring but I loved it.

I’m not sure if people fully realize just how big a deal it is for the Spurs to miss the playoffs. Yes, they had made the playoffs in 22 straight seasons before this year, which is incredible. But it’s more than just that.

Prior to this year, the last time they missed the playoffs was the 96-97 season. Before that year, the Spurs had gone to the playoffs in seven straight years. That means that, entering the 2019-2020 season, they had made the playoffs in 29 of the last 30 seasons. That’s over 97% postseason rate over a span of three decades.

In all, the Spurs have been in the NBA for 44 years. This is just the fifth time that they’ve missed the playoffs in that span. Thirty-nine playoff appearances in 44 years, that’s an 89% playoff rate over a span of nearly half a century.

It took the Spurs six more years to miss the playoffs for the fifth time in their history than it did for them to win their 5th NBA Championship. That’s an insane level of success that is pretty much unparalleled in the world of sports, aside from the Celtics up until the 90s, and I’m not sure if/when a run like this will happen again.

Taking into account just how deep the West looks to be for the foreseeable future, as well as the fact that Pop is 71 now, and we might be witnessing the end of the era.

How fortunate is it to be a Spurs fan, that the low-point of our franchise is shaping up to be the start of an exciting, incredible new chapter? How special is it that we hand the reigns to some of the most likable, respectable, and humble young guns in the NBA? Sure, some bad luck came between us and history, but it's impossible to overstate how luck and circumstance was on our side, again and again. Other franchises have caught up to us, and that's absolutely a credit to Pop and his staff, and the influence they've had on the league.

Anyway, time to see what this "lottery" thing is all about.

Honestly way more okay with this than I thought I’d be during the season. We have definitive proof that the Bryn Forbes experiment was a failure, have seen a lot of development out of our young players (especially White and Keldon), and turned DeMar into an insanely efficient playmaker. LMA will be in the last year of his deal so we can either trade him or let him keep shooting 3s because posting up obviously wasn’t working. Ultimately, this season made me more upset with Pop’s insistence on playing Bryn rather than hurting how I felt about the team itself. The West is gonna be even tougher next year, but I’m strangely not too upset.

I’ll admit it: I’m tearing up. I’ve never seen the Spurs miss the playoffs, I’m only 18. I grew up going to games, watching games on TV, getting in the car with thousands of other fans and honking Downtown after a Spurs title. I do feel sad, it’s unfortunate that the streak is over. But I’m not as sad as I thought I’d be. I’ve accepted it, as a Spurs fan I’m incredibly spoiled, we all are.

We’ve been able to see one of the greatest runs in the history of sports, made even better by the fact that this isn’t LA, or NYC or any big market, this was done by a small market team. I’m disappointed it ended sure, but I’m happy as well, happy to have been able to see this team one last time before the streak was broken, happy with how well they played, happy with the team’s potential.

Derrick and Keldon both look fantastic, Dejounte isn’t quite as sharp as I thought he’d be at this point but he’s still a good player, Lonnie, and the complimentary pieces like Eubanks and (eventually) Samanic, plus the lottery pick we’ll get? This team can go places in a few years.

Derrick white is a legit starter, poetl is great at defense and we definitely need to hold onto him. Keldon is a beast!!! Lonnie and Murray got minutes and had some great games. Metu, luka and Eubanks got some minutes. All this and they won most of their games and kept the rest close. I'll miss the big three years and constantly being a contendor but I'm super excited about the future of the spurs.
