The reason he wasn't hated is because he was not a key player for us, the intention of him leaving was to play more minutes. I don't think It's possible for a 90 minute key player moving to a rival team to not be hated. Doesn't matter which top team you're talking about.

The thing is, he was confined to the bench for the majority of the last two seasons. He could have easily left for first team football last summer but he stuck it out and welcomed Alexis' and Lacazette's competition until it was clear that there was no way for him to get into the team (ahead of Auba/Laca). He didn't leave us high and dry, and he left in time to get ready for the world cup without making his wife unhappy with a move to somewhere foreign. He would have had more critics if he did leave us when still a 90 minute player, but the fact that he didn't is one of the reasons he's even more loved.
